Laminate Composites > Creating a global layup

Ply extensions

You can extend existing plies, along with their draping data, into layups other than their layup of origin. This allows you to simulate complex curing operations as well as the secondary bonding process between pre-cured composite parts, and obtain the interlaminar ply results from the simulation while maintain ply IDs.

Example:

In the following T-joint model, plies from the Vertical layup are extended into the Horizontal layup.

Layups Vertical Ply 3 Ply 2 Ply 1 Horizontal Ply 3 (extended from Vertical) Ply 1 (extended from Vertical) Ply 5 Ply 4 Layups Vertical Ply 3 Ply 2 Ply 1 Horizontal Ply 3 (extended from Vertical) Ply 1 (extended from Vertical) Ply 5 Ply 4

In the Simulation Navigator, global plies that are extended have (extended from [original layup name]) after the ply name.
