Export of MAT8 materials in Simcenter Samcef

Simcenter Nastran MAT8/MATT8/MATS1 material is exported to the Simcenter Samcef input file as a standard Orthotropic material (.MAT BEHAV "ELASTIC" command). The software exports the MAT8 properties as well as some additional orthotropic properties that can be set in the Orthotropic Material dialog box.

MAT8 properties

Mechanical data Output in the Simcenter Samcef input file (.MAT BEHAV "ELASTIC")
**Young's Modulus (E1)**and Young's Modulus (E2) YT E1 E2 E2
Poisson's Ratio (NU12) NT NU12 0. 0.Note: If Shear Modulus (G12), Shear Modulus (G13), and Shear Modulus (G23) have the same value, Poisson's ratios are output as NT NU12 NU12 NU12
Shear Modulus (G12), Shear Modulus (G13), and Shear Modulus (G23) G G12 G23 G13Note: If Shear Modulus (G13) is not defined, its value is defined as Shear Modulus (G12) * 1000.If Shear Modulus (G23) is not defined, its value is defined as Shear Modulus (G12) * 1000.

Additional orthotropic properties

The Simcenter Nastran MAT8/MATT8/MATS1 property view shows you the properties that you can define for that type of material. However, some other orthotropic properties may be defined when you import an orthotropic material from another model (or an external source), or if you explicitly define them using the All Properties view.

In this case, the Simcenter Samcef input file may include some of these properties, even if you do not see them in the Simcenter Nastran MAT8/MATT8/MATS1 view.

Property set in the All Properties view Output in the Simcenter Samcef input file
Young's Modulus (E3) If you define the Young's Modulus (E3), the software exports the material as a classical Orthotropic material. For more information, see Orthotropic Material dialog box (Simcenter Samcef Structure).

Strain Limits settings are exported if Young's Modulus (E3) is undefined or set to zero.

Property set in the All Properties view Output in the Simcenter Samcef input file
Tension (XT1), Tension (XT2), and Tension (XT3) DT XT1 XT2 XT2Note: The Tension (XT3) is ignored.
Compression (XC1), Compression (XC2), and Compression (XC3) DC XC1 XC2 XC2Note: The Compression (XC3) is ignored.
Shear (XS12), Shear (XS13), and Shear (XS23) DST XS12 XS12 XS12Note: The Shear (XS13) and Shear (XS23) properties are ignored.

Poisson’s Ratio settings are exported if Young's Modulus (E3) is undefined or set to zero.

Property set in the All Properties view Output in the Simcenter Samcef input file
Poisson's Ratio (NU12), Poisson's Ratio (NU23), and Poisson's Ratio (NU13) NT NU12 NU13 NU13Note: The Poisson's Ratio (NU23) property is ignored.
