Durability
Durability objects
Use the Manage Durability Objects command to create durability objects which define durability solver settings. Because you can reuse durability objects in different durability events and in the Damage Evaluation dialog box, you can define durability solver settings once, and use them in multiple events or in the Damage Evaluation dialog box.
You can create the following durability objects:
Strength durability object
Defines requests for stress criterion, stress type, and strength output.
Fatigue durability object
Defines fatigue life settings, fatigue life output requests, fatigue safety factor settings, and fatigue safety factor output requests.
Random fatigue durability object
Defines random fatigue settings and fatigue life output requests.
Axis search durability object
Defines the stress axis method and settings for calculating stress damage propagation.
Solve options durability object
Defines element and material overrides. If you select only a portion of your model to perform the durability analysis, you reduce the solve time. You can override the material specified on the model if either of the following conditions is true:
All the appropriate durability and fatigue material properties are not set in the FEM file.
You need to perform what-if scenarios.
The table lists the durability objects that you must define for each durability event or damage evaluation. You can select only one object of each type per event or damage evaluation.
| Durability Object | Strength | Fatigue | Random Fatigue | Axis Search | Solve Options |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Static Event | X | X | X | X | |
| Transient Event | X | X | X | X | |
| Random Durability Event | X | X | |||
| Evaluate Damage | X |
Note:
The Evaluate Damage command does not use all the options available in the Fatigue durability object.
When you open the Durability Object Manager dialog box for the first time, the software automatically creates one durability object of each type with default values for all durability settings.
The durability objects are saved in the Simulation file. Your Simulation file can contain multiple durability objects of each type.
You can also create and edit durability objects directly from event dialog boxes or the Durability Damage Evaluation dialog box.
Customer defaults
Customer defaults can be set to follow your company standards and to best suit your analyses. In the Customer Defaults dialog box, under Simulation→Pre/Post→Simcenter 3D Durability, the customer defaults for the durability settings are available on the following tabs.
General tab contains the temperature default for the solve options durability object.
Strength tab contains defaults for the strength durability object.
Fatigue tab contains defaults for the fatigue durability object.
Axis Search tab contains defaults for the axis search durability object.
