Nonlinear analysis

All structural problems are to some degree nonlinear. Whenever loads, material properties, contact conditions, or structural stiffness are a function of displacement, the problem is nonlinear. If large displacements or rotations are present, the linear strain-displacement relations assumed in linear analysis may be inadequate.

Nonlinear analysis considers geometric and material nonlinear behavior. In a nonlinear dynamics analysis, for example, the software calculates dynamic responses with nonlinear effects. Compared to a linear analysis, a nonlinear analysis requires significantly greater computer time and disk storage. As the same element library is offered for both linear and nonlinear analyses, you can easily convert an existing linear model to a nonlinear model.
