Map an assembly component to a new FEM file

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click an ignored CAD component part and choose Map New.If there are multiple instances of the same CAD component part, right-click an ignored CAD component part and choose Find All Matching Components. Then right-click the selection and choose Map New to map the component FEM to all matching CAD components.

  2. In the New Part File dialog box, select a FEM template. To create a new subassembly FEM, select the Blank — Assembly FEM template.

  3. In the Name box, type a unique file name.

  4. If necessary, click Choose Directory to change the directory where the new file is stored.

  5. Click OK.

  6. In the New FEM dialog box, choose the CAD component part you are mapping from the loaded part files list.Alternatively, clear the Associate to Master Part check box to create a non-geometry based FEM file, or click Open to browse for a part file using an alternate geometry representation.

  7. Click OK.In the Simulation Navigator, the CAD component icon and the text color update to indicate that it is a mapped component, and the new FEM file appears as a child of the assembly FEM node. Assembly FEM Loaded CAD assembly CAD component part (Ignored) CAD component part (Mapped) CAD component part (Ignored) New component FEM.The FEM is displayed in the graphics window and inherits the CAD component's orientation in the CAD assembly.

  8. To mesh the polygon geometry and define physical and material properties for the new FEM, right-click the component FEM node in the Simulation Navigator and choose Make Work Part. You can now create and edit FE data as usual.
