Identifying critical data on ply-enveloped results
You can identify the following critical data on ply-enveloped results:
Global ply IDs
Ply IDs
Ply-enveloped results are stored in the result nodes that do not contain the word Ply; for example, Max Abs FI — Elemental.

Use the Show Critical Global Ply ID command to display the global ID of the critical ply for each element being displayed in the laminate graphical report of ply-enveloped results.
Use the Show Critical Ply ID command to display the ply stacking order of the critical ply for each element being displayed in the laminate graphical report of ply-enveloped results.
Example:
In this example, the global ply IDs are 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16, but, each element contains only three plies.
| Show Critical Layer ID | Show Critical Ply ID |
For the top most elements and the bottom most elements, the critical layer is the first ply indicated by ID 1. For the top most elements, the first ply has a global ply ID of 14. For the bottom most elements, the first ply has a global ply ID of 12.
The Nastran PCOMP format supports layer IDs, as opposed to the PCOMPG format, which supports global ply IDs. Regardless of which Nastran format you choose, you can display the critical ply or critical layer in laminate post reporting.
Use the Show Critical Loadcase ID command to display the ID of the critical loadcase for each ply and for the ply-eneveloped-results. The following image represents a critical loadcase ID.
The critical loadcase ID has three components:
Component one indicates the solution. In this example, the solution ID is 2.
Component two indicates the sub case. In this example, the sub case ID is 1.
Component three indicates the iteration. In this example, the iteration ID is 1.
Where do I find it?
| Application | Pre/Post |
|---|---|
| Prerequisite | The graphical report result sets must include envelope result sets. |
| Post Processing Navigator | Select an enveloping result set→right-click the Post View node→Show Critical Global Ply ID or Show Critical Ply ID or Show Critical Loadcase ID |
