Chain a nonlinear analysis with a modal analysis (Simcenter Samcef)

To compute vibration modes around an instantaneous configuration, you can chain a nonlinear analysis subcase with a modal solution.

  1. Under the active nonlinear solution node, right-click the subcase you want to chain with, and choose Edit.

  2. In the Solution Step dialog box, on the Storage page, from the Parameters list, select Edit.

  3. In the Chaining Parameters group, select the Generate Output for Modal Analysis check box. This creates additional Simcenter Samcef results files that are mandatory for the modal solution.

  4. Solve the nonlinear solution. For more information, see Solve the model.

  5. Right-click the active the modal solution and choose Edit.

  6. In the Solution dialog box, on the Chaining page, select the Activate Chaining check box.

  7. From the Chaining Type list, select Vibration modes around the instantaneous configuration.

  8. In the Subcase Selection group, from the Source Type list, select Solution.

  9. From the Solution lists, select the nonlinear solution and subcase you want to chain with.

  10. In the Contact Control group, define how the modal solution should handle the nonlinear contact conditions. You can ignore the contact conditions, only keep the normal contacts, or you can keep both the normal and sliding contacts.

  11. Click OK.
