Dang Van fatigue safety factor

The Dang Van fatigue safety factor (FSFDV) is calculated for each element as the minimum value over all time steps as follows:

where:

  • sp,max(k) and sp,min(k) are the maximum and minimum principal components of the microscopic deviatoric stress tensor s(k) at time step k.

  • h(k) is the hydrostatic stress for the macroscopic deviatoric stress tensor S(k) at time step k given by: h(k) = (S11(k) + S22(k) + S33(k))/3.

  • m and n are Dang Van parameters calculated as follows: and where:τfl is the Dang Van fatigue limit strength in torsion that you set.σfl is the Dang Van fatigue limit strength in bending that you set.

The macroscopic deviatoric stress tensor S(k) is computed from the stress history and used by the Dang Van algorithm to compute the microscopic deviatoric stress tensor s(k).

The fatigue failure index (FFIDV) is calculated using this equation: FFIDV = 1/FSFDV.
