Modeling Object
Name Sets a meaningful name for the modeling object.
Label Sets a unique numeric identifier for the layer.
Properties
Description Sets a description for the modeling object.
Material Assigns a material to the layer.Select a material from the list of materials, or click Choose material to define a new material.
Material Orientation Type Appears when an orthotropic material is selected from the Material list.Specifies the type of coordinate system used to define the material orientation.
Main Conduction and Plane Appears when an orthotropic material is selected from the Material list.Specifies the main conduction direction and the main conduction plane.
Material Orientation Appears when an orthotropic material is selected from the Material list.Lets you use the standard coordinate system tools to define the material orientation based on a local coordinate system. For more information, see CSYS dialog box.
Thickness Sets the thickness for the layer.
Thermo-Optical Properties
Radiation Specifies whether and where radiation calculations for the elements in the mesh collector occur. You can activate radiation calculation for the following faces of the shell: top face, bottom face, or both, top and bottom faces.
Top / Bottom Top available when the Radiation is set to Top or Top and Bottom. Bottom available when the Radiation is set to Bottom or Top and Bottom.Specifies the thermo-optical properties for modeling radiation.Black BodyDefines an emissivity of 1.Thermo-Optical Properties Defines a constant or temperature-varying emissivity.Thermo-Optical Properties-AdvancedDefines the infrared and solar thermo-optical properties for modeling gray radiation or wavelength-dependent thermo-optical properties for modeling non-gray radiation.Thermo-Optical Properties - StateDefines up to five thermo-optical property states. Each state references one Thermo-Optical Properties or Thermo-Optical Properties - Advanced modeling object. Use Thermo-Optical Properties - State to model optical property degradation. This modeling object is only available in Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow or Space Systems Thermal solver environments.Select Black Body or a modeling object from the list, or click Open Manager to define a new modeling object.Click Edit to modify the specified modeling object.Click More Options to search and filter modeling objects. The following options are available.FindLets you search for an object by entering the full name of the object. If the object is found, it is selected automatically.Example: To find a region named ABC_region, type ABC_region in the search box and press Enter or click Find .Filter by NameLets you filter the list by the names of the objects. This filter supports wildcards. The default wildcard is the asterisk (), and it displays all entries in the list.Example: To filter the list to display every object with a name starting with the letter “a, enter a as the filter string.
Coupling to Layer Above
Coupling Magnitude Specifies how the software couples the current layer to the layer above it in the stack.Based on Layer PropertiesSpecifies that the material and thickness of the layer determine its thermal coupling to the layer above.SpecifyLets you define specific values for the couplings between the layer and the layer above. For the purpose of calculating heat transfer to the layer above, Specify overrides all values specified for Material, Thickness, and Radiation. See Working with multi-layer shell elements for more information.NoneDoes not couple the current layer to the layer above it in the stack.Note: The software ignores these options for the top layer in a layer stack.
Account for Appears when Coupling Magnitude is set to Specify.Specifies how the layer is thermally coupled to the layer above.ConductionCouples the layer to the layer above it through conduction.RadiationCouples the layer to the layer above it through radiation.Conduction and RadiationCouples the layer to the layer above through conduction and radiation. You sets the value for:The conductive heat transfer to the layer above it in the Heat Transfer Coefficient box.The radiative heat transfer to the layer above it in the Effective Emissivity (E * GBVF) box.
