| Element Topology | |
|---|---|
| The options described on this page are for:Element Family = 3D****Collector Type = Solid | |
| Material | |
| Type | Specifies the type of material.Pure SubstanceModels any material other than a fluid mixture.MixtureModels mixtures for flow modeling. |
| Material | Appears when Type is set to Pure Substance.Assigns a material to the mesh collector. To model heat transfer in a solid body, assign an isotropic, orthotropic, or anisotropic material with thermal properties. To model fluid flow, assign a fluid material. For more information, see Defining materials for Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling, and Space Systems Thermal.Select a material from the list of materials assigned to the model, or click Choose material to define a new material. |
| Mixture | Appears when Type is set to Mixture.Assigns a mixture to the mesh collector. From the Mixture list, select a Homogenous Gas Mixture or Immiscible Fluid Mixture modeling object, or click Open Manager to define a new modeling object.Click Edit to modify the specified modeling object.Click More Options to search and filter modeling objects. The following options are available.FindLets you search for an object by entering the full name of the object. If the object is found, it is selected automatically.Example: To find a region named ABC_region, type ABC_region in the search box and press Enter or click Find .Filter by NameLets you filter the list by the names of the objects. This filter supports wildcards. The default wildcard is the asterisk (), and it displays all entries in the list.Example: To filter the list to display every object with a name starting with the letter “a, enter a as the filter string. |
| Material Orientation | |
| Appears when Type is set to Pure Substance. | |
| Material Orientation Method | Specifies the method used to define the material orientation for orthotropic or anisotropic materials and for directional specular reflectivity in radiation modeling.Coordinate SystemAssigns the three components of the orthotropic properties using the orientation of the coordinate system you selected from the Material Orientation Type list. You can select Absolute, Cartesian, Cylindrical, or Spherical. When you select Cartesian, Cylindrical, or Spherical, you must also specify a CSYS. Material Orientation lets you use the standard coordinate system tools to define the material orientation based on a local coordinate system. For more information about the CSYS dialog box, see CSYS dialog box.Tangent CurveFinds the closest point on the selected curve or edge to the element centroid and sets the primary direction as tangent to the selected curve or edge.Surface NormalFinds the closest point on the face to the element centroid and then sets the primary direction as normal to the face at that point.VectorLets you use the vector definition tools to specify the primary direction.Spatial FieldAssigns the material orientation using a spatial field, which, for example, is imported from a simulation that contains material orientation definitions for 3D elements.Element Free Face ProximityUses the normal of the selected element free face that is closest to a given element in the mesh. You can select the free face of one or more of the elements. When you select a single element free face, the software uses the normal of the selected face for all elements in the mesh.See Define 3D element material orientation (Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling, and Space Systems Thermal) for more information. |
| Secondary Direction Method | Appears when Material Orientation Method is set to Tangent Curve, Surface Normal, Vector, or Element Free Face Proximity.Specifies a method for defining the secondary direction of the material orientation.Tangency Point to CentroidInfers the secondary direction by defining the shortest vector from the curve to the element centroid. This method is available only for the Tangent Curve material orientation method.Tangent CurveFinds the closest point on the selected curve or edge to the element centroid and sets the secondary direction as tangent to the selected curve or edge.VectorLets you use the vector definition tools to specify the secondary direction. |
| Rotation 1, Rotation 2, Rotation 3 | Appears when Material Orientation Method is set to Tangent Curve, Surface Normal, Vector, or Element Free Face Proximity.Adjust the orientation of the defined material coordinate system by rotating it about either or all of its three axes. You define the amount of rotation in the Rotation Angle 1, Rotation Angle 2, and Rotation Angle 3 boxes. |
| Thermo-Optical Properties | |
| Radiation | Activates radiation calculations for the elements in the mesh collector.Note: Only the free faces of 3D elements exchange radiation. |
| Thermo-Optical Properties | Available when Radiation is selected.Specifies the emissivity and other thermo-optical properties for modeling radiation.Black BodyDefines an emissivity of 1.Thermo-Optical PropertiesDefines a constant or temperature-varying emissivity.Thermo-Optical Properties - AdvancedDefines the infrared and solar thermo-optical properties for modeling gray radiation or wavelength-dependent thermo-optical properties for modeling non-gray radiation.Thermo-Optical Properties - StateDefines up to five thermo-optical property states. Each state references one Thermo-Optical Properties or Thermo-Optical Properties - Advanced modeling object. Use Thermo-Optical Properties - State to model optical property degradation.Note: This modeling object is only available in Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow or Space Systems Thermal solver environments.Select Black Body or a modeling object from the list, or click Open Manager to define a new modeling object.Click Edit to modify the specified modeling object.Click More Options to search and filter modeling objects. |
| Name | Sets a meaningful name for the mesh collector. |
