Display dialog box

The Display dialog box also appears as a tab within the Post View dialog box. In addition, many options in the Display dialog box are available from commands in the Display group of the Results tab.

General options for all types of plots

Option Description
Color Display Available for contour plot display only.Displays a contour or marker plot of results data on your model. When Color Display is selected, you can select one of the following options.ContourDisplays a continuous range of colors that indicate the value of the plotted results.ElementShows results per element, with each color corresponding to a value. Unlike contour displays, the element display shows one value per element. Each element is drawn in a single color.Iso-LineDisplays lines showing constant result values drawn on the model. The color of the lines indicates the result value. Iso-SurfaceDraws surfaces showing constant values on the model. The surface color indicates the result value. ArrowsDisplays vector results as arrows. CubesDisplays scalar results as cubes. SpheresDisplays scalar results as spheres.TensorsDisplays tensor results using a tensor data marker.StreamlinesDisplays velocity results by showing the path taken by a massless particle from a defined point. Each point along the streamline is tangent to the velocity vector of the fluid flow.
Smooth****Banded Appears when Color Display is set to Contour.SmoothDisplays a continuous range of colors that indicate the value of the plotted results.BandedDisplays bands of color that correspond to the levels in the color bar.
Lighted Appears only for contour plot display.Lets you control the lighting display of the contours in post-processing results. To display the contours without the effects of shadows, clear the Lighted check box. When the Compress check box is selected, clearing the Lighted check box reduces the post view memory consumption, and improves the performance of loading the frames of an animation. The following examples show displacement results.Lighting turned on****Lighting turned offNotice that in the example with lighting turned on, the shadows help you see the model features more clearly, but they also obscure the contour colors. With lighting turned off, and therefore without the shadows, the contour colors match the colors in the color bar legend. However, the shape of the geometry is not as clear, and features are not as visible. The example is shown with external element edges hidden to better illustrate the color differences. However, the display of external element edges can help you distinguish model features when the Lighted check box is cleared. Lighting turned on Lighting turned off

Beam Display Style Appears when Color Display is set to Contour.Available for 1D line elements.Sets the display of beam results.LineDisplays a beam as a deformed line of 1D line elements along the length of the beam. For example, you can display stress at defined stress recovery points along the length of a beam.Line and DiagramDisplays results as a diagram plot of 2D curves to evaluate the result along the length of the beam. The height and color of the diagram plot correspond to the magnitude of the result at any point along the beam. The diagram plot is displayed as follows:If the beam is oriented along the X- or Z-axis of the absolute coordinate system, the diagram plot is displayed along the Y-axis of the absolute coordinate system. If the beam is oriented along the Y-axis of the absolute coordinate system, the diagram plot is displayed along the Z-axis of the absolute coordinate system.Note: The displayed shear and moment contours along the length of the beam may not match traditional sign convention.SolidAppears for Simcenter 3D Nastran results (.op2 or .des) files linked to a solution in pre-processing.Does not appear for imported results.Displays a beam as a 3D solid, extruding the section geometry along the length of the element.
Scale Appears when the Beam Display Style is set to Line and Diagram.Controls the scale of the beam diagram plot.Type the scale of the diagram plot as a percentage of the model or as a constant value in model units.
Edges & Faces
Edges Specifies the display of edges in the primary display. Select from the following options:ExternalDisplays external element edges only.FeatureDisplays the edges of geometry features.WireframeDisplays all element edges.NoneHides all element and feature edges.Polygon EdgeOnly available for results with an associated solution and CAD geometry. Not available for imported results. Displays polygon edges. Click the Color palette to change the edge color.
Faces Available when the Color Display check box is cleared.Specifies the face display type and color of the model. FillDisplays the model with a single color.UnfilledDisplays all element edges with a single color (wireframe display).Click the Color palette to select the color.
Display Compression
Compress Appears for Smooth, Banded, and Element post view displays.Reduces the memory that the post view consumes. When compressed, the shading is smoothed at edges that have curvature changes.Element-nodal stress resultsWithout display compressionWith display compressionThe Face Normal Tolerance and Value Level Tolerance options provide additional compression and memory savings, especially for models that have many features or a large variation in results. Without display compression With display compression
Without display compression With display compression
Face Normal Tolerance (Deg) Available when the Compress check box is selected.Reduces memory consumption further as you increase the tolerance. The maximum tolerance is 90 degrees.Models with many features or a large variation in results show a greater reduction in memory consumption.
Value Level Tolerance (%) Available when the Compress check box is selected.Reduces memory consumption further as you increase the tolerance. The maximum tolerance is 50%.Models with many features or a large variation in results show a greater reduction in memory consumption.
Spring/Mass Display Size
Scale Appears when spring or mass elements are present in the model.Type the spring or mass size as a percentage of the model or as a specified length in part length units. The software applies the display changes to all spring or mass elements in the model. For spring elements, the display size controls the following:For non-coincident node spring elements, the spring display size controls the length of the tooth of the spring (1). For coincident node spring elements, the spring display size also controls the length of the tooth of the spring (1) and the length of the spring (2) is proportional to the length of the tooth. For mass elements, the mass display size controls the length of the edge of the cube.
Display on Choose an entity to display the results:Free FacesDisplays only the free faces of the model. VolumeDisplays all faces present in the model. This option works best with translucency enabled. To enable translucency, choose PreferencesVisualization. Click the Visual tab and select the Translucency check box.Cutting PlaneDisplays results on a plane cut through the model. It is useful for examining results on interior surfaces or to reveal results for parts of the model that are otherwise obscured. Using the cutting plane, you can pass a plane through the model and remove the displayed results from either or both sides of the cutting plane.Click Options to display the Cutting Plane dialog box, where you can specify options for the cutting plane display.3D Axi-symmetricAvailable only when the model includes axisymmetric results. Displays the results of an axisymmetric analysis as a virtual 3D solid.Click Options to display the 3D Axi-symmetric dialog box, where you can specify options for the virtual solid display.
