Damage Evolution dialog box (Abaqus)
| Properties | |
|---|---|
| Description | Lets you specify an optional description for the modeling object. |
| Damage Evolution Parameters | |
| Evolution of Damage Based On | Controls how you define the evolution of damage.EnergyDefines the evolution of damage in terms of the energy required for failure (the fracture energy) after the initiation of damage.Effective SeparationDefines the evolution of damage as a function of the total displacement after the initiation of damage. |
| Softening Response | Controls the type of softening stress-strain response (after the initiation of damage).LinearSpecifies a linear softening stress-strain response (after the initiation of damage) for linear elastic materials or a linear evolution of the damage variable with deformation (after the initiation of damage) for elastic-plastic materials.ExponentialSpecifies an exponential softening stress-strain response (after the initiation of damage) for linear elastic materials or an exponential evolution of the damage variable with deformation (after the initiation of damage) for elastic-plastic materials. |
| Mixed-Mode Definition | Controls how the fracture energy is specified.**Default (Mode Independent)**Specifies that the damage evolution behavior is mode independent.TabularSpecifies the fracture energy or displacement (total or plastic) directly as a function of the shear-normal mode mix for cohesive elements. You must use this method to specify the mixed-mode behavior for cohesive elements when you select Effective Separation from the Evolution of Damage Based On list.Power LawSpecifies the fracture energy as a function of the mode mix by means of a power law mixed mode fracture criterion.Benzeggagh-KenaneSpecifies the fracture energy as a function of the mode mix by means of the Benzeggagh-Kenane mixed mode fracture criterion. |
| Mode Mix Ratio | Appears when Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Tabular, Power Law, or Benzeggagh-Kenane.EnergyDefines the mode mix in terms of a ratio of fracture energy in the different modes. You must select Energy if you select Power Law or Benzeggagh-Kenane from the Mixed-Mode Definition list.TractionDefines the mode mix in terms of a ratio of traction components. |
| Power Law Ratio | Appears when Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Power Law.Sets the exponent in the power law criterion that defines the variation of fracture energy with mode mix for cohesive elements. |
| Benzeggagh-Kenane Exponent | Appears when Evolution of Damage Based On is set to Energy and Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Benzeggagh-Kenane.Sets exponent in the Benzeggagh-Kenane criterion that defines the variation of fracture energy with mode mix for cohesive elements. |
| Define Temperature-Dependent Data | Select to define the fracture energy as temperature-dependent. |
| Fracture Energy | Appears when Evolution of Damage Based On is set to Energy, Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Default (Mode Independent), and the Define Temperature-Dependent Data check box is cleared.Lets you directly specify the value for the fracture energy. |
| Fracture Energy as A Function of Mode Mix Ratio | Appears when Evolution of Damage Based On is set to Energy, Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Tabular, and the Define Temperature-Dependent Data check box is cleared.Lets you specify a table-based field that defines the dependence of the fracture energy on the mode mix in tabular form |
| Fracture Energy, Normal Mode | Appears when Evolution of Damage Based On is set to Energy, Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Power Law or Benzeggagh-Kenane, and the Define Temperature-Dependent Data check box is cleared.Sets the normal mode fracture energy. |
| Fracture Energy, First Shear Direction****Fracture Energy, Second Shear Direction | Appears when Evolution of Damage Based On is set to Energy, Mixed-Mode Definition is set to Power Law or Benzeggagh-Kenane, and the Define Temperature-Dependent Data check box is cleared.Sets the shear mode fracture energy for failure in the first and second shear directions. |
| Effective Displacement at Failure | Appears when Evolution of Damage Based On is set to Effective Separation and the Define Temperature-Dependent Data check box is cleared.Specifies the displacement at failure, as measured from the time of damage initiation. |
