Computation times for a nonlinear analysis solution step (Simcenter Samcef)
In a Simcenter Samcef Non-Linear Static Analysis solution, for each solution step you define, you must specify the Time Interval for the computation.
You can define these values in the Time group of parameters of the solution step. The following sections detail the most important values to define.
Starting and ending computation times
Define the starting and ending computation times in the From and To fields (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter TIME).
For more information, see the Imposed Times section of the Simcenter Samcef solver documentation.
Automatic timestep mode
Select the Automatic Time Step to let Simcenter Samcef handle timesteps automatically (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter: CIBL).
With this mode:
You can impose the Minimal Time Step and Maximal Time Step range of values for the automatic timestep (Samcef .SUBCASE parameters: HMIN and HMAX).Depending on the computation workflow, the nonlinear solver can modify the value of the timestep at any iteration automatically, but always in this given range.
You can specify your desired Imposed Time Step and related Imposed Time Step Value (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter: PAS).The nonlinear solver uses this timestep value except when solving iterations requires a lower value to ensure convergence.
You can specify the Initial Time Step that is used when starting the computation (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter: DTI0).Note: Changing the initial timestep can be helpful in a model that fails to converge at the very beginning of the computation. We recommend that you specify this Initial Time Step in most situations.
For more information, see the times stepping methods section of the Simcenter Samcef solver documentation.
Manual timestep mode
If you clear the Automatic Time Step check box, you switch to manual mode. With this mode:
You can specify your timestep. Choose between the following two options:Define the Imposed Time Step and related Imposed Time Step Value (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter: PAS).Define the Number of Timesteps and related Number of Timesteps Value (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter: NPAS).
You can specify the Initial Time Step that is used when starting the computation (Samcef .SUBCASE parameter: DTI0).
For more information, see the times stepping methods section of the Simcenter Samcef solver documentation.
Where do I find it?
