Interface Resistance
An Interface Resistance simulation object models additional conductances in series between two entities that already conduct heat between them.
You can control the magnitude of these additional conductances by the specifying a value for:
Total Conductance
Total Resistance
Heat Transfer Coefficient
The software distributes these additional conductances among the primary elements proportionally by area.
Example:
In the image above, the PCB shares nodes with the port, conducting heat. However, an Interface Resistance simulation object can be added to better represent the model.
Selecting an Interface Resistance type
The Type option in the Interface Resistance dialog box lets you control how the software creates the conductances. There are three types of interface resistance depending on the specified solution and analysis:
Surface Interface
Applies the interface resistance to a free or shared face of a polygon body meshed with 3D elements. This type has only primary elements (no secondary elements).
Edge Interface
Applies the interface resistance to a free or shared edge of a polygon face meshed with 2D elements. This type has only primary elements (no secondary elements).
Interface Between 2 Sets
Applies the interface resistance between faces, or edges (in any combination). This type of Interface Resistance has both primary and secondary elements. The software detects the nodes shared between the two sets and inserts the resistance in series between the two sets.
There are two modeling scenarios for using an Interface Resistance simulation object: conduction interface modeling and free face interface modeling. For more information, see Modeling scenarios for using an Interface Resistance.
Supported variables and functions
The following table lists the independent variables and auto-generated expressions for the Surface Interface and Edge Interface quantities that you can define using fields and expressions.

In expressions, you can also use all built-in functions that are listed in Mathematical functions in expressions and most built-in functions that are listed in Thermal-flow functions in expressions.
