Exciter selection configuration

Video: Create optimum exciters for test planning

Use the Exciter Configurations commands to create, edit, and solve the exciter selection configuration. The exciter selection configuration is used to select optimum exciter locations and directions for a selected set of sensors. You specify the selection method and the settings for the exciter selection algorithm.

You can create multiple exciter selection configurations for a given pre-test solution process. You can then solve all the configurations at the same time or you can solve only the active configuration.

Exciter selection algorithms

To determine optimal exciter locations, you can use a normal mode indicator function (NMIF) or driving point residue (DPR) algorithms.

The NMIF algorithm, for each candidate exciter DOF, computes mode indicator functions at the defined sensors and for the active modes. Using the calculated maximum NMIF values and the specified NMIF threshold value, the algorithm identifies the DOFs which excite the most modes. See Normal Mode Indicator Function (NMIF) algorithm for more information.

The DPR algorithm, for each candidate exciter DOF, computes drive point residues at the defined sensors and for the active modes. It also computes minimum, maximum, average, and weighted average residue values, which are presented in a sorted matrix format. You can determine how many exciters to display. See Driving Point Residue algorithm for more information.

The NMIF algorithm uses mode weights for exciter selection, but the DPR algorithm does not consider them.

Configurations node in the Simulation Navigator

In the Simulation Navigator, under the Configurations [#] node, all the exciter configuration nodes are listed. If the exciter configuration is undefined or outdated, an update icon appears.

When you select a specific exciter configuration node in the Simulation Navigator, the graphics window displays the exciter locations in red and the sensor DOFs in blue.
