Importing and exporting spot weld connections using wcd format

You can easily transfer and manage spot weld information within CAE models by importing and exporting universal spot weld connections using the weld connection definition (.wcd) file format. In the .wcd file, commented lines denoted by # contain the name and units of each spot weld connection. The information for each location within a weld is stored in a separate line using the format below.

Before exporting, check that each spot weld connection has a status of Not realized or Up-to-date. Connections that have a status of Invalid cannot be exported and must be eddied until their status is Not realized or Up-to-date.

When you export a spot weld connection, the Information window displays potential problems such as whether a location has a failed projection, the physical properties of the flanges cannot be determined, or if the connection is invalid.

Fields:

Field Contents
TYPE Type string, which you can only define using GRID. The software ignores any line not beginning with GRID.
ID Identification number of the spot weld. ID is not used when importing a .wcd file in Simcenter 3D.
DIAM Diameter of the spot weld. On import, If DIAM is greater than 0.0, the software creates the spot weld diameter with Defined by set to User in the Spot Weld Connection dialog box. Otherwise, the software sets Defined by to Formula.On export, if you set diameter Defined by to Coefficient or Table Defined in the Spot Weld Connection dialog box, the software exports the connection with DIAM blank.
X, Y, Z X, Y, and Z coordinates of each location within the weld definition.The software exports coordinates of the weld locations regardless of whether any of the weld locations fail to project.
PID Flange property identification number for each flange, which can define up to four flanges. PID3 and PID4 are optional.If a weld location fails to project, the software exports the weld location with PID blank.
MAT Material property assigned to the spot weld (optional).
