Protective Layers dialog box
Use this dialog box to set options for the Protective Layers simulation object for Thermal/Flow, Space Systems Thermal, Multiphysics, and Simcenter Nastran solvers.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Defines the simulation object's name.Description opens an editor that lets you type a description for the simulation object. |
| Destination Folder | |
| Simulation Object Container | Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container. |
| Folder Manager | Displays a hierarchical list of existing folders that you can use to store the boundary conditions. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder. |
| Region | |
| Group Reference | Applies the protective layers to the selected group. For more information, see Group Reference options. |
| Select Object | Lets you select a polygon face to use as protective layers.Excluded lets you remove individual entities from within your selected object. |
| Thermo - Optical Properties | |
| Appears when a Thermal/Flow, Space Systems Thermal, or Multiphysics thermal solution is active. | |
| Radiation | Activates radiation calculations for the protective layers.Note: Only the surface of the outer protective layer exchanges radiation. |
| Thermo-Optical Properties | Defines the emissivity for modeling radiation.Black BodyDefines an emissivity of 1.Thermo-Optical PropertiesDefines a constant or temperature-varying emissivity.Thermo-Optical Properties-AdvancedDefines the infrared and solar thermo-optical properties for modeling gray radiation or wavelength-dependent thermo-optical properties for modeling non-gray radiation.Thermo-Optical Properties - StateDefines up to five thermo-optical property states. Each state references one Thermo-Optical Properties or Thermo-Optical Properties - Advanced modeling object. Use Thermo-Optical Properties - State to model optical property degradation. This modeling object is only available for solutions that already support this modeling object.Select Black Body or a modeling object from the list, or click Open Manager to define a new modeling object.Click Edit to modify the specified modeling object.Click More Options to search and filter objects. The following options are available.FindLets you search for an object by entering its full name. For example, to find a region named ABC_region, type ABC_region in the search box and press Enter or click Find . If the object is found, it will be selected automatically.Filter by NameLets you filter the list by the names of the objects. This filter supports wildcards. The default wildcard is the asterisk (), and it displays all entries in the list. For example, to filter the list to display every object with a name starting with the letter “a," enter a as the filter string. |
| Structural Export Options or Export Options | |
| Appears when a Multiphysics structural or Simcenter Nastran structural solution is active. | |
| Matrix Label | Sets a unique identifier for the exported matrices. This identifier appears in the structural input (.dat) file.If you plan to export only one matrix (Export Layers as Separate Matrices check box is cleared), the label can be 10 characters. If you plan to export a matrix for each layer (Export Layers as Separate Matrices check box is selected), limit the label to 8 characters. The software appends the label with the two-digit layer number. For example, the matrix label PL0001 becomes PL000106 for layer 6. |
| Export Layers as Separate Matrices | Exports a separate matrix for each defined layer. |
Layers 1-5 tab
| Layer 1 to Layer 5 | |
|---|---|
| Material | Assigns isotropic material with thermal properties to the associated protective layer.Select a material from the list of materials assigned to the model, or click Choose material to define a new material. |
| Thickness | Specifies the thickness of the associated protective layer. |
Layers 6-10 tab
| Layer 6 to Layer 10 | |
|---|---|
| Material | Assigns isotropic material with thermal properties to the associated protective layer.Select a material from the list of materials assigned to the model, or click Choose material to define a new material. |
| Thickness | Specifies the thickness of the associated protective layer. |
