Create a topology optimization solution

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the simulation node and choose New Solution.

  2. In the Name box, type a unique name for the solution.

  3. From the Solver list, select Simcenter Nastran.

  4. From the Analysis Type list, select Structural.

  5. From the Solution Type list, select SOL 200 Topology Optimization.

  6. Click Create Solution.

  7. (Optional) To prevent the creation of a .csv file with raw optimization data or to change the amount of data that the file contains, in the Bulk Data page, click Create Modeling Object next to Topology Optimization Parameters (DOPTPRM), expand the E-Z group, and do one of the following in the MXCRTRSP box:To prevent the creation of the .csv file, type -1.To include only design objective information in the .csv file, type 0.To specify the amount of critical design constraint information to include, type a value between 1 and 20.For information about how this value affects the file, see Optimization spreadsheet.

  8. In Bulk Data page, in the Maximum Number of Design Cycles (DESMAX) box, type the number of design cycles to perform.

  9. (Optional) To specify a lattice structure for 3D printing, from the Penalty Law (DRMLAW) list, select LATTICE. Then select the lattice structure from the Lattice Structure Type list. For more information about lattices, see Lattice structures.

  10. From the Recovery Option (NASPRT) list, specify which design cycles to include in the results:Initial and Best—Include results for Design Cycle 0 (no optimization) and the last design cycle, which should be the best optimization results.Initial with Skipped Cycles—Include results for Design Cycle 0 and all the design cycles that were not skipped. The value for Cycle Skip Count determines which design cycles to skip. (The count begins with Design Cycle 0, and that design cycle is always included in the results.)If you set Cycle Skip Count to 1, no cycles are skipped, so you get results for Design Cycles 0, 1, 2, 3, and so on. If you set Cycle Skip Count to 5, the cycles up to every fifth one are skipped, so you get results for Design Cycles 0, 4, 9, 14, and so on. Setting Cycle Skip Count to 0 includes only the results for Design Cycle 0 (no optimization) and the last design cycle.Initial and All Improved—Include Design Cycle 0 and every cycle that shows an improvement over the previous cycle.Note: If you select a solution parameters modeling object from the Parameters list that has a value defined for NASPRT, that value overrides your selection in the Recovery Option (NASPRT) list.

  11. Click OK.

  12. To create a solution step, select the desired type from the Step list, click Create Step, complete the Solution Step dialog box, and then click OK.
