Persistently displaying element thickness
Use the Display 2D Element Thickness and Offset option in the Mesh Display dialog box to view a graphical representation of the thickness of the 2D elements in your model. The software continues to display the thickness of the elements until you turn this option off. In addition, if there is a Z offset defined in any element associated data for the mesh, the display accurately represents that offset.
Below, (A) shows a mesh of 2D elements on the midsurface of a turbine blade. (B) shows the mesh displayed by itself with the Display 2D Element Thickness and Offset option selected.
You can create a display of the element thicknesses to verify that the thickness values are defined correctly for the model. An element thickness display can also help you locate areas in your model in which the 2D elements have no defined thickness values.
With the Display 2D Element Thickness and Offset option, the software displays a thickness for all 2D elements in the model, regardless of how the thickness is defined. For example, the software displays element thicknesses that are:
Derived from a midsurface's thickness.
Defined in a physical property table.
Defined as Element Associated Data for selected elements.
Defined as a field.
Where do I find it?
To display element thickness and offset, do one of the following:
In a FEM file, right-click the 2D mesh collector or 2D mesh and choose Edit Display. In the Mesh Display dialog box, select Display 2D Element Thickness and Offset.
In a Simulation file, right-click the 2D mesh collector or 2D mesh and choose Create Display Override or Edit Temporary Display. In the Mesh Display dialog box, select Display 2D Element Thickness and Offset.
From the Preferences menu, choose Mesh Display. In the Mesh Display dialog box, select Display 2D Element Thickness and Offset.
