Define Design Variables dialog box – Geometry Optimization
| Design Variables | |
|---|---|
| Design variables category list | Specifies the type of design variable that you want to define. Design variables are independent quantities that you can vary to achieve the optimum design.Section Properties — Lets you select beam cross section dimensions, if your finite element model contains 1D beam meshes.Shell Properties — Lets you select shell thickness properties from the physical properties for the mesh, if your finite element model contains 2D shell meshes. Optimization can only update a constant shell thickness property across a 2D mesh. You cannot select:Shell thicknesses defined on individual elements using Element Associated Data.Variable shell thicknesses defined from a midsurface or field.Feature Dimensions — Lets you select geometry feature dimensions, such as fillet radius.Sketch Dimensions — Lets you select sketch dimensions, if your model contains a sketch.Expressions — Lets you select expression values, if your model contains expressions. |
| Attribute list | Displays design variables that can be selected for a specific problem. The available list depends on the selected design variable category. For example, if you selected Section Properties , the list contains the beam cross sections defined in your FEM, such as Section 1, Section 2, Section 3, and so on. |
| Quantity list | Displays parameters that correspond to the selected design variable in Feature Dimensions. You can select one or more of these parameters to optimize a specific problem. |
| Parameters | |
| Define limits by percentage | Activates the Percent Value option. |
| Percent Value | Sets a percentage value for the limit range. |
| Limit Type | Sets the limit type to Upper or Lower. Upper and lower limits define a range of variation and serve as constraints on the allowable amount of change. |
| Limit Value | Specifies the value to limit. This upper or lower limit is the response criteria that the software is not allowed to violate when converging on an optimization solution. |
| Unit | Specifies the unit of measure for the Limit Value. |
| Global Sensitivity Design Variable | |
| Activate for Global Sensitivity | Available when the Process Type is set to Global Sensitivity.Specifies that this design variable will be analyzed for the sensitivity study. |
