Create a vibration input

You create vibration inputs while defining a random or a harmonic data source.

  1. In the Vibration Inputs group of the Random Data Source or the Harmonic Data Source dialog box, click Create Vibration Input to create a vibration input using the Vibration Input Definition dialog box.

  2. In the Name - Description group, in the name box, type a name for the vibration input.

  3. In the Location group, select one or more nodes as the location for the vibration input definition.

  4. In the Direction group, from the CSYS list, select the coordinate system to specify the nodes' locations and vibration inputs' directions.

  5. In the Definition group, from the X list, select one of the following excitation types to assign to the selected nodes in the specified direction:Free****Fixed to instruct the solver to fix the DOF while computing the modes.Enforced Motion or Nodal Force, and choose FunctionsFunction Manager to select or create a power spectral density (PSD) function using the XY Function Manager dialog box.You can define up to three translational (X, Y, Z) and three rotational (RX, RY, RZ) vibration inputs (as free, fixed, enforced motion, nodal force, or nodal moment DOF types), to assign to the selected nodes in the specified direction.Note: The Fixed and Enforced Motion excitation types are not available when you select the Read Modal Participation Factors option in the Modes subgroup of the Random Data Source dialog box.

  6. In the Modal Participation Factor Unit Loads group, for each excited DOF, select the corresponding subcase that the software reads from the forced vibration solution results file, and specify the unit load used to calculate the modal participation factor in that subcase.Modal Participation Factor Unit Loads group is available when in the Random Data Source dialog box, in the Modes subgroup, you select the Read Modal Participation Factors option.

  7. Click OK to close the Vibration Input dialog box.
