Update a system model

Load base FEM representations

When you open an existing assembly FEM which includes superelements, the base FEM representations are not loaded in order to conserve system resources. You must load the base FEM representations before you can change some FEM occurrence attributes. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the superelement representation and choose Load.

Update the superelement representation

One of the advantages of creating system models using external superelements is that, when a substructure is modified, you need only to re-solve the superelement solution for that substructure. When a mapped superelement .op2 file is modified, you must reload the superelement file before those changes can propagate to the system model.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the superelement representation and choose Edit Representation.

  2. In the FE Model Component Representation dialog box, in the Super Element file group, select Reload.

  3. Click OK.

Regenerate the base FEM approximation

If the component FEM from which the base FEM approximation derives has been modified, you can regenerate the approximation to match the updated FE topology.

  1. If necessary, load the base FEM representation.

  2. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the superelement representation and choose Edit Representation.

  3. In the FE Model Component Representation dialog box, in the Graphical Representation group, from the Display list, select Approximation of base FEM.

  4. Select Regenerate FEM approximations.

  5. Click OK.
