Rigid body (Abaqus)
In the Abaqus environment, use the Rigid Body simulation object to model very stiff components, either fixed or undergoing multi-body dynamics analyses.
Defining a rigid body
To define a rigid body, you specify the following:
The elements or nodes to be included in the rigid body definition. You can define a Rigid Body simulation object using the following types:Rigid Body Element — Defines a rigid body on elements.Rigid Body Pin — Defines a rigid body on nodes whose translational degrees of freedom (DOFs) are associated with the rigid body. Abaqus refers to these types of nodes as Pin-type nodes.Rigid Body Tie — Defines a rigid body on nodes whose translational and rotational DOFs are associated with the rigid body. Abaqus refers to these types of nodes as Tie-type nodes.
A reference node on the body. You can specify that the Abaqus solver reposition the rigid body reference node at the calculated center of mass.
Defining isothermal rigid body
You can define a rigid body as an isothermal rigid body for fully coupled thermal-stress analysis (Coupled Thermal-Structural and Dynamic Coupled Thermal Structural). If you do not define a rigid body as isothermal, all nodes on the rigid body connected to coupled temperature-displacement elements have independent temperature degrees of freedom (DOF).
Associated Abaqus keywords
The Rigid Body simulation object corresponds to the Abaqus *RIGID BODY keyword. For more information, see *RIGID BODY in the Abaqus Keywords Guide.
