Laminate Composites > Defining plies and a stacking sequence
Define ply properties
You create a new ply for a laminate physical property and define the ply details in an FE model in the Laminate Modeler dialog box.
In the Laminates Properties group, from the Stacking Recipe list, select any option except Inherited from layup.
In the Ply Layup tab, click Create New Ply , or right-click an existing ply and choose Create New Ply.
In the Ply Layup tab, select or create a material for the ply using one of the following methods:Click Select material and choose an existing material, or create a new one.Select a previously referenced material from the Material list.Select the Ply Material check box and select a previously defined ply material from the Ply Material list.Select the Ply Material check box and click Select ply material to select or create a ply material from the Laminate Ply Material Manager dialog box.
In the Ply Layup tab, type the ply thickness in the Thickness box.Note: If you are using a laminate Ply Material that has a value defined for Finished Thickness, it is not necessary to enter a value for thickness.
(Optional) In the Ply Layup tab, define the ply orientation angle as a rotation from the element material orientation. Type the ply orientation angle in the Angle box. Note: Ply orientation angles are subject to the right-hand rule with respect to the element normal. You can enter a ply orientation angle between -360 and 360, but the software converts any angle less than -90 or greater than 90 to a value between these two limits.
(Optional) In the Ply Layup tab, select a color for the ply when it is displayed in the Ply Sketcher tab. Click the color box to open the Color dialog box. Click any of the colors in the pallet or click More Colors for additional options.
(Optional) In the Ply Layup tab, from the Ply Failure Theory and Interlaminar Failure Theory list, select the ply failure and interlaminar failure theories.
