Frequency interpolation methods

The frequency interpolation methods are linear and the output data set is identical to the input data set except with different occurrences interpolated at the specified frequencies. Three interpolation methods are available:

  • Real and imaginary

  • Amplitude and phase

  • Real and imaginary, with unwrapped phase

Real and imaginary

The real and imaginary interpolation is the most straightforward interpolation, but it is also the least accurate for most harmonic applications.

For the frequency, such that , the interpolated complex function, , is given by:

For the frequency, such that , the interpolated function, , is given by:

Real and imaginary, with unwrapped phase

The relationship for amplitude and phase, , can lead to erroneous interpolation. If an interpolation is done between two complex numbers of phase and , respectively, the resulting interpolated complex number has a zero phase, whereas it should have a phase of . To avoid this problem, the phase needs to be unwrapped. The unwrapped phase is computed as:
