Geometry idealization

Model preparation

Model preparation consists of all the steps required to prepare CAD geometry for meshing. Model preparation may include:

  • Using Modeling tools to repair imported CAD geometry by repairing, replacing, or sewing unstitched sheet bodies.

  • Using the Synchronous Modeling tools to make modifications to part design, or to idealize complex geometry for meshing.

  • Using the idealization tools available in Pre/Post.

Geometry idealization is the process of removing or suppressing features from your model prior to defining a mesh. In addition, you can also use geometry idealization commands to create features, such as midsurfaces, to support your finite element modeling goals. You can use geometry idealization commands to:

  • Remove features, such as bosses, that aren't significant to your analysis.

  • Split a larger body into multiple smaller bodies to facilitate structured meshing.

  • Create midsurfaces to facilitate shell meshing of thin-walled parts.

  • Modify the dimensions of the idealized part using interpart expressions.

The software performs all geometry idealization operations on the idealized part. No idealization is performed directly on the master model.
