FE Model Correlation and Update

Model update workflow

Step Summary Detailed help topics
1. Create and solve the work solution. The work solution is an NX or MSC Nastran SOL 200 Model Update solution. Before you solve the solution, you must create the following:A DOF set for model reduction.Design variables. Work solution for the model update solution processCreate or modify a solutionCreate design variables for the model update solution processSolve the work solution for the model update solution process
2. Import or create a reference solution. The reference solution can be:A test solution. An analysis solution containing modal results. Import an UNV test solutionAnalysis solution
3. Create the Model Update solution process. The Model Update solution process references a work solution and a reference solution. Create a Model Update solution processEdit the Model Update solution process
5. Review the Model Update solution process. The Model Update solution process automatically generates the node map and pairs work and reference modes. You can:View the pairs using side-by-side display and animations.Change the method the software uses for pairing.View MAC, CoMAC, MSF, and X-Ortho results. Display side-by-side modal resultsUpdate mode pairsDisplay correlation metrics as 2D matrix plots
6. Review design variables. The Model Update solution process lets you:Modify design variable values, bounds, and individual weights.Fix design variables that you do not want to optimize for.Reset the design variable values and bounds to the initial values and bounds that are in the design variable modeling objects.Plot design variable sensitivities to targets. Modify a design variableRemove a design variable from the optimizationReset the design variablesView sensitivity matrix
7. Specify the optimization targets. The Model Update solution process lets you:Modify the individual weights of the optimization targets.Activate or deactivate targets to or from optimization.Reset the target configuration.Specify different overall weights for target frequencies and target mode shapes.Set the target pairing method. Modify individual target weightActivate or deactivate targets from the optimizationReset targetsSet overall target weightsModify the mode pairing and shape correlation method
8. Solve for errors. The Model Update solution process calculates initial and current target errors for both frequency and mode shape targets. Solve for target errors
9. Optimize the design variables. The Model Update solution process lets you choose between the following optimization algorithms:Least squareSteepest descentGenetic algorithmAfter optimization, the Model Update solution process outputs the new design variable values and target errors. Launch the optimization
10. Repeat steps 6 — 9 until you are satisfied with the target errors.
11. Update the Design Variable modeling objects. The Model Update solution process updates the initial values and bounds of the design variable modeling objects with the current design variables and bounds of the active Model Update solution process. Update the design variables
12. Add or remove Design Variable modeling objects. If the results do not improve significantly with the current set of design variables, you can either create new Design Variable modeling objects or remove the Design Variable modeling objects that are insensitive to the targets. You must add any new Design Variable modeling objects to the current SOL 200 Model Update solution before you resolve the solution. Create design variables for the model update solution process
13. Resolve the work solution. The Model Update group on the Correlation tab includes the Solve Work Solution command that bypasses the Solve dialog box and immediately launches the solve of the current SOL 200 Model Update solution. Solve the work solution during the Model Update solution process
14. Refresh the results in the Model Update solution process. Refreshes the modes, targets, design variables, and errors of the active Model Update solution process with the current work solution results and solution process settings. Refreshing model update and model update set results
15. Repeat steps 5 — 14 until you are satisfied with the current design variable values.
16. Update the FE model. The Model Update solution process updates the material and element properties referenced by the design variable modeling objects in the FEM or Simulation file with the optimized design variable values. Update the FE model
