Specifying parameters for Nastran analyses
Parameters are used extensively in Nastran solution sequences to input scalar values and turn on special features or options. There are several ways that parameters can be added to your Nastran solution with the PARAM bulk data entry.
Certain parameters are automatically added to your Nastran input file when you export or solve a solution. These parameters are hard-coded.
Certain parameters correspond to options in the Solution dialog box. If you select one of those options, the software adds the corresponding parameter to your Nastran input file when you export or solve a solution.
All parameters supported by both Simcenter Nastran and MSC Nastran are available through the Solution Parameters modeling object. In the Solution Parameters dialog box, you can also use the User Defined Parameters section to specify additional parameters. After you create a Solution Parameters modeling object, you use the Parameters option on the Case Control or Bulk Data tab of the Solution dialog box to include it in your solution.Note: When you have a FEM file active, the Export Simulation dialog box includes an Additional PARAMs option in the Output Options group. This allows you to include an existing Solution Parameters modeling object in the Nastran input file when you export from a FEM file.
You can use the Additional Parameters option in the Customer Defaults dialog box to specify parameters that you want the software to include in your Nastran input file every time you export or solve your model. Additionally, you can use the Additional Parameters option to override values for any parameters that are hard-coded at export by the software, such as PARAM,POST,-2 or PARAM,OMACHPR,YES.To specify additional parameters:Choose File→Utilities→Customer Defaults. In the Customer Defaults dialog box, select Simulation→Pre/Post→Nastran.On the Solution tab, use the Additional Parameters section to enter the parameters you want the software to write out each time you export or solve a solution. You must include the PARAM keyword. If you specify multiple parameters, you must separate them with commas.
Defining parameters through a solution parameters modeling object
The Solution Parameters dialog box provides a complete graphical interface to all Nastran parameters. Parameters are listed in alphabetical order exactly as they appear in the Simcenter Nastran Quick Reference Guide for easy reference.
When you define a solution parameters modeling object and include that object in a solution, the parameters that you specify are written to the PARAM bulk data entry when you solve the model. By defining solution parameters as a solver-specific modeling object, you can easily re-use a set of solution parameters among multiple solutions.
Note:
There are multiple ways you can include parameters in a Nastran input file. For information on how the software processes duplicate parameter entries, see Export of Nastran parameters.
See Parameter Descriptions in the Simcenter Nastran Quick Reference Guide for complete descriptions of all solution parameters and valid values for each.
