Fluid Domain dialog box – Fluid Surface Mesh options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Defines the simulation object's name.Description opens an editor that lets you enter a description for the simulation object. |
| Destination Folder | |
| Simulation Object Container | Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container. |
| Folder Manager | Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder. |
| Region | |
| Select Object | Lets you select the polygon faces on which to control the local mesh density of both the Fluid Surface Mesh and the adjacent Fluid Mesh, and define an optional boundary layer mesh.Excluded lets you remove individual entities from within your selected object. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
| Surface Mesh Density | |
| Specify Local Surface Mesh Density | Controls the size of the mesh on the selected surface.Select Specify Local Surface Mesh Density to specify the local size of the 3D fluid elements where they contact selected polygon faces at the boundary of the fluid mesh.Clear the Specify Local Surface Mesh Density check box to use the global Mesh Density settings defined in the Fluid Mesh dialog box to determine the size of the 3D fluid elements where they contact selected polygon faces at the boundary of the fluid mesh. |
| Element Size Type | Active only if you select the Specify Local Surface Mesh Density check box.Controls the method you use to specify the size of the elements in the fluid mesh where they contact selected polygon faces at the boundary of the fluid mesh. Relative lets you specify a value that defines the element size as a fraction of the longest edge of the bounding box of the selected geometry. Absolute lets you specify the element length.Match Solid Mesh specifies that the elements in the fluid surface mesh match the element size of any 2D mesh on the selected polygon face or if no 2D mesh exists, any free faces of 3D elements on the selected polygon face. |
| Boundary Layer Mesh Definition | |
| Create Boundary Layer Mesh | Controls the creation of a boundary layer mesh.Select the Create Boundary Layer Mesh check box to create a boundary layer mesh on the selected polygon faces. The mesh density is defined by Specify Local Surface Mesh Density.Clear the Create Boundary Layer Mesh check box to apply the Surface Mesh Density values to the elements of the Fluid Mesh where they contact the selected polygon faces. |
| Layers Thickness | Controls how the thickness and overall number of layers in the boundary layer mesh is defined.Select Total Thickness to specify options to define the thickness of the boundary layer in terms of absolute values.Select Relative Thickness Ratio to specify options that control the rate at which the thickness of the layers (size of the elements) increases in each successive layer. |
| Specify First Layer | Available if you select Relative Thickness Ratio from the Layers Thickness list.Controls whether you can specify the element size in the first layer of elements in the boundary layer mesh.Select Specify First Layer to specify the size of the elements in the first layer of elements.Clear the Specify First Layer check box to specify the total number of layers in the boundary layer mesh. |
| First Layer Thickness | If you select Specify First Layer, lets you specify the size of the first layer of elements in the boundary layer. |
| Number of Layers | Available if you select Total Thickness from the Specify First Layer list, or if you select Relative Thickness Ratio from the Specify First Layer list and clear the Specify First Layer check box.Lets you specify the total number of layers the software creates in the boundary layer mesh. |
| Total Thickness | If you select Total Thickness from the Layers Thickness list, lets you specify the total thickness of all the layers of the boundary layer mesh. |
| Thickness Ratio | If you select Relative Thickness from the Layer Thickness list, defines the rate at which the mesh thickness increases for each successive layer. Specify a value greater than 0 and less than 1.With a small value, the thickness of each layer increases quickly. With a larger value, the thickness of each layer increases slowly. |
