Correlation nodes in the Simulation Navigator

The main panel of the Simulation Navigator includes several nodes that you use specifically for the correlation solution process. For more information, see Simulation Navigator overview.

FRF SetsFRF Set 1FRF Set 2 FRF Sets FRF Set 1 FRF Set 2 The standalone FRF Sets node contains the FRF sets imported from the test reference solutions. You can edit FRF sets and activate the desired FRF set for the FRF correlation solution process.Note: FRF sets are also used for other applications. Correlation 1 Correlation 1 The Correlation node references both the reference and the work solutions, including their shapes. Depending on the result type, the Correlation node has different icons and contains different nodes. For a modal correlation solution process, the Correlation node is indicated by and contains a node map, mode shapes, sensor sets, and mode pairs. For an FRF correlation solution process, the Correlation node is indicated by and contains a node map, FRF sensor sets, and FRF pairs.

Solution 1 Modes [10] or Solution 1 FRFs [65] Solution 1 Modes [10] Solution 1 FRFs [65] Reference solution nodeFor a modal correlation solution process, the reference solution node contains the Modes [#] nodes. The number in the square brackets indicates the number of active normal modes of the reference solution. The reference solution can be a test solution or another analysis solution. For an FRF correlation solution process, the reference solution node contains the FRFs [#] nodes. The number in the square brackets indicates the number of active FRFs of the reference solution. The reference solution must be a test solution.

The A-Set DOF must be compatible with the DOFs of the test sensors to enable the cross-orthogonality shape correlation metric. The Mr [# x #] node indicates that a reduced mass matrix exists for the work solution and is found in the OP2 result file. The U-Set DOF [#] node is displayed when an Analysis (U SET) DOF set exists in the OP2 result file. The U-Set DOF [#] node is shown for information only. U-Set DOFs do not affect correlation results. U-Set DOFs have meaning for the Model Update solution process, see Simcenter 3D FE Model Update for more information.Note: The A-Set DOF [#], Mr [# x #], and U-Set DOF [#] nodes are only supported for Simcenter Nastran SOL 103 Real Eigenvalues and SOL 200 Model Update solutions.

The number in the square brackets indicates the number of FRFs of the work solution.Note: The work solution must be a Nastran SOL 108 Direct Frequency Response Functions or SOL 111 Modal Frequency Response Functions solution.

Node Map [17] Node Map [17] The Node Map [#] node contains the number of nodes that are paired between the work model and the reference model, based on proximity. Ideally, this number should be equal to the number of sensors in the sensor sets. When you select the Node Map [#] node, the software populates the Correlation Details View subpanel with node map information. For more information, see Correlation Details View subpanel (correlation solution process).

You can only edit the cloned sensor sets. You cannot add sensor DOFs that do not exist in the initial sensor set. After cloning and editing sensor sets, you can activate the desired sensor set for the modal correlation solution process.

Mode Pairing Mode Clusters [4] Mode Pairs [8] Mode Pairing Mode Clusters [4] Mode Pairs [8] For a modal correlation solution process, the Mode Pairing node contains the following nodes:The Mode Clusters node, which contains mode clusters of work and reference mode shapes. It appears in the Simulation Navigator when you select the Define Mode Clusters check box in the Mode Pairing Control dialog box.The Mode Pairs node, which contains mode pairs that the software finds between the reference and work solutions. When you select the Mode Clusters or Mode Pairs node, the software populates the Correlation Details View with the mode clusters or mode pairs. For more information, see Correlation Details View subpanel (correlation solution process).

Mode Correlation Metrics Mode Correlation Metrics For a modal correlation solution process, the Mode Correlation Metrics node provides access to Correlate Mode dialog box, as well as to Plot MAC, Plot X-Ortho and the (1 – COMAC) commands. The Plot MAC and Plot X-Ortho commands are shortcuts to launch matrix plots using the up-to-date reference and work solution mode shapes and the up-to-date node map and active sensor set. You can display the (1 – COMAC) results in the Post Processing Navigator to visually identify the parts of the structure which are responsible for a poor correlation between the reference solution and the work solution.
