Extrude Laminate
Use the Extrude Laminate command to generate 3D layered meshes from 2D meshes that are referenced by laminate physical properties or by global layups. The 3D meshes can contain one or more plies. The plies referenced by the elements in the 2D mesh determine the thickness of each layer in the extruded laminate.
Extrusion of 3D elements in the direction of the 2D element normals
To control the extrusion, you can:
Limit the 3D extrusion domain using cutting faces.
Modify the default location of the layup offset and consider this offset during extrusion.
Prevent the creation of degenerate solid elements when you extrude thick laminates from a concave face.
Store or discard any degenerate 3D elements created during extrusion due to the underlying geometry and extrusion distance.
Note:
When you extrude multiple zone-based laminate physical properties that have different laminate thickness or number of plies, the software does not manage the thickness transition between the plies of the adjacent laminate physical properties. If you want to manage the thickness transitions, use the ply-based process instead of the zone-based process.
Sandwich Structures
You can specify sandwich structures that consist of one or more element layers for the core ply. The core contains 3D meshes. You can choose 2D or 3D meshes for the skins of the laminate sandwich structure. The software considers the following as valid core plies:
An inner ply if it is a core ply material.
The top ply when the Stacking Recipe is set to Symmetric with core or Repeated with core.
The inner plies with the Description containing the word core, when the Stacking Recipe is set to Regular, Symmetric, or Repeated.
You can select only one core ply at a time.
