Calculate viscous damping using Rayleigh's method
Use Rayleigh's Damping to calculate modal viscous damping ratios for all the normal modes, providing damping that is proportional to the stiffness and mass of the model.
In the Simulation Navigator, locate the node for your response analysis solution process (indicated with the icon).
Right-click the Modal Representation node and choose Calculate Rayleigh's Damping.
In the Rayleigh's Damping dialog box, select a Damping Method. To define constant values for stiffness and mass in the damping formula, select Formula. The formula used is [C] = Alpha[k] + Beta[m]. Enter a constant value for stiffness in the Alpha box and a constant value for mass in the Beta box.To define a viscous damping factor to be applied across a frequency range of your normal modes, select Range. Enter the percentage of viscous damping to be applied at the lowest frequency and the percentage to be applied at the highest frequency in the range.
Click OK. Note the change in frequency for each mode in the Damped Frequency column.
