Replace a FEM file with a mode set or FRF set
You can replace a standalone, component, or assembly FEM with a mode set or FRF set.
Ensure that the appropriate file is the work part.To replace a FEM standalone FEM file, make the Simulation file the work part.To replace component FEM file, make the assembly FEM file the work part.
In the Simulation Navigator, right-click a standalone, component, or assembly FEM and choose Edit Representation.
From the Representation list, select the type of set to use to replace the FEM.To replace the FEM with a mode set, select Mode Set.To replace the FEM with an FRF set, select FRF Set.
If you replace the FEM with a mode set, you can use the Binary Format check box to control whether the software creates an ASCII or binary mode set when you export or solve the model.Because the software can process binary data faster than ASCII data, the computation that uses a binary Mode Set is accelerated.
Use the Mode Set or Frequency Response Function Set options to select or create the set to use to replace the FEM file. Do one of the following:From the set list, select an existing set and continue with step 13.Click Create FEM Data Set to create a new set, and continue with the next step.
If you are creating a new set, in the Name box, type a unique name for the set.
If the Simulation file is the work part and you want to select results from the Simulation Navigator, do the following:Click Solution Result.Select the corresponding solution name from the list, and continue with step 9.Only solutions with existing results files appear in the list.
If your data source is in an external file, click File and then click Browse to navigate to the file that contains the results.
If your data source contains multiple FRFs or mode shapes, select the combination of FRFs or modes you want to merge into the FRF set, or select the mode shape collection you want to use.For information on selecting FRFs or mode shapes, see Mode Set / Frequency Response Function Set / Acoustic Transfer Vector Set / Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector Set dialog box.
If you have companion data sources associated with the primary data source, you can use the Adds a Data Source from External File or Adds as a Simulation Result as Data Source commands to add them to the primary data source, which is listed in the Data Source group. For information on companion data sources, see Mode Set / Frequency Response Function Set / Acoustic Transfer Vector Set / Vibro-Acoustic Transfer Vector Set dialog box.
For mode sets and FRF sets, in the Mesh group, specify how the software should create the mesh for the alternate representation. For more information, see Controlling mesh creation for mode sets.
Click OK to close the Mode Set or FRF Set dialog box.
For mode sets and FRF sets, in the FE Model Component Representation dialog box, in the Graphical Representation group, choose how to display the set.
Click OK.
