Response Dynamics > Defining the Simcenter Nastran solution
Efficiency through restart analysis
When you perform a response evaluation, the software calculates responses in two sets of data: modal responses and physical responses (as described in Response functions).
The first time you evaluate a given event, the software must calculate both sets of data. However, for subsequent evaluations, you can reuse the existing modal responses and only the physical response data recovery step is necessary. The savings in computational time can be significant, especially if the model (including FEM, modal responses, and loading data) is large. Running a restart analysis also ensures consistent responses from the same event settings, because you cannot change the original loadings and modal parameters.
Using an Event Evaluation File (EEF)
To perform a restart analysis, you import the modal responses that are stored in an Event Evaluation File (EEF).
An EEF stores:
File header information
Modal responses (displacements, velocities, accelerations) for events
Excitation functions
The software automatically saves an EEF file when you perform evaluations for an event.
You can then import the EEF when you create a new Response Dynamics solution process.
You can modify your original event for a different analysis. You can use the same event (for minor changes, for instance) to create multiple event evaluation files for restart analysis.
You can also import EEF files created in Ideas Response Analysis.
