FE Model Correlation and Update

Pre-test workflows

Before you perform the pre-test planning tasks, you must have a Simulation file that contains a solution with modal results. Modal results include natural frequencies and mode shapes.

Sensor selection workflow

The following steps summarize the overall process you should follow to locate the optimal placement of sensors for modal testing. You use the analysis results from the existing solution in the current Simulation.

Step Summary Detailed Help topic
1. Create the Pre-Test. Create the Pre-Test solution process in the Pre/Post application. Create a new pre-test solution process
2. Specify modes. Specify the modes to consider. You can assign a weight to each mode. Change the weight of the mode
3. Define DOF sets. Define both the candidate DOF set and the required DOF set. The candidate DOF set is the possible placement of sensors. The required DOF set is the required placement of uniaxial and triaxial sensors. Select a candidate DOF set from nodesSelect required DOFs using nodes with normal DOFs
4. Create sensor selection configurations. Create a sensor selection configuration where you specify the selection algorithm and the number of desired uniaxial and triaxial sensors. You can create multiple sensor configurations for the same pre-test solution process. Create a new sensor selection configurationEdit the active sensor selection configuration
5. Solve one or more configurations. You can solve one or all sensor selection configurations at the same time. Solve sensor selection configurations
6. Review sensor locations for different configurations. For each configuration, view selected sensor locations and directions in the graphics window.View the Auto-MAC for the candidate modes while considering the following:All DOFsCandidate DOFsRequired DOFsEach sensor selection configurationEasily compare multiple sensor selection configurations in a detail view. You can export pre-test planning results to Excel, CSV, and UNV files. Display Auto-MAC results for the modesDisplay Auto-MAC results for DOF setsDisplay Pre-Test Auto-MAC resultsExport a test analysis reference solution
7. Generate a DOF set. Generate a Simulation DOF set that matches the sensor locations and directions of the specific configuration. You can use this DOF set as a prerequisite for obtaining a test-analysis model (TAM). Generate a DOF set that matches the sensor location

Exciter selection workflow

The following steps summarize the overall process you should follow to locate the optimal placement of exciters for modal testing. You use the analysis results from the existing solution in the current Simulation.

Step Summary Detailed Help topic
1. Create the Pre-Test. Create the Pre-Test solution process in the Pre/Post application. Create a new pre-test solution process
2. Specify modes. Specify the modes to consider. You can assign a weight to each mode. Change the weight of the mode
3. Define DOF sets. Define both the sensor DOF set and the candidate DOF set. The sensor DOF set contains the sensor DOFs that need to be excited by the exciters. The candidate DOF set contains the possible locations for exciters. You can obtain the sensor DOF set using the sensor selection workflow. Select a candidate DOF set from nodesSelect required DOFs using nodes with normal DOFsGenerate a DOF set that matches the sensor location
4. Create exciter selection configurations. Create an exciter selection configuration where you specify the selection method and the settings for the exciter selection algorithm. You can create multiple exciter configurations for the same pre-test solution process. Create an exciter selection configuration
5. Solve one or more configurations. You can solve one or all exciter selection configurations at the same time. Solve exciter selection configurations
6. Review exciter locations for different configurations. For each configuration, view selected exciter locations and directions in the graphics window.View the Auto-MAC for the candidate modes while considering the following:All DOFsSensor DOFsCandidate DOFsYou can display the exciter selection configuration information and the exciter set details information in the Information window. Display Auto-MAC results for the modesDisplay Auto-MAC results for DOF setsDisplay exciter set information
