Processing of angular and non-angular measures in Simcenter 3D 2019.1

For this version, the Expression Angular Units for Distance Calculations customer default was removed from the software and the following environment variable was added: NX_USE_ANGULAR_UNITS_FOR_DISTANCE_CALCULATIONS

  • When you did not specify the environment variable, the software behaved exactly as it did in versions of Simcenter 3D prior to 11. Thus, you would not specify the environment variable when you migrated a model that was created in a version of Simcenter 3D prior to 2019.1 and the expressions in the model included products of angular and non-angular measures and also included correction factors.

  • When you specified NX_USE_ANGULAR_UNITS_FOR_DISTANCE_CALCULATIONS=RAD, the software returned the expected values as follows:ProductExpression dimensionality (units)Formula for the expressionValue for the expressionDisplacement (mm)25[mm]3[radians]75[mm]25[mm]3[degrees]1.3089....[mm]rω2Acceleration (mm/sec^2)25[mm](2[radians/sec]^2)100[mm/sec^2]25[mm](2[degrees/sec]^2)0.03046....[mm/sec^2]When you specified the environment variable, you no longer needed to apply a correction factor to expressions with formulas that involved the product of angular and non-angular measures in order to obtain expected results. Thus, you would specify the environment variable when you created models in Simcenter 3D 2019.1 or you migrated expressions without correction factors from a version of Simcenter 3D prior to 2019.1.
