Durability

Analyzing strain gage rosette data

Use the Analyze Strain Gage command to create durability functions from strain gage rosette data. You can obtain the strain gage rosette data from either of the following:

  • A Response Dynamics solution process. You can select the strain gage data from a list or in the graphics window.

  • An AFU file. You can obtain the strain gage data stored in the AFU file from a test setup.

The durability functions are saved to a target AFU file. You can view the durability functions in the XY Function Navigator.

The following durability functions can be obtained as functions of time:Biaxiality ratioEffective stress and strainMaximum and absolute maximum principal strainMaximum and absolute maximum shear strainMaximum and absolute maximum principal stressMaximum and absolute maximum shear stressVon Mises and signed Von Mises stress. The signed Von Mises stress is the Von Mises stress with the sign of the maximum principal stress.Non-proportionality indicator functions: maximum and absolute maximum principal angle

You can have the software write the lateral loading ratio to the AFU records that store the stress and strain functions. The lateral loading ratio, sometimes called the effective biaxiality ratio, is written to the User Value field in the AFU record.

You can use customer defaults to set the default output request for when strain gages are analyzed. You set the defaults on the SimulationPre/PostSimcenter 3D DurabilityStrain Gage Analysis tab in the Customer Defaults dialog box.

Biaxiality ratio and non-proportionality indicators can help you decide which fatigue life criteria to use for damage evaluation. You can produce a spreadsheet that contains damage information for the strain gage location, using the Evaluate Damage command.
