Strain Gage dialog box (Specialist Durability)
| Type | |
|---|---|
| Type | Specifies the type of strain gage.Uni-AxialSingle strain gage leg for measuring stress or strain in the direction that the strain gage is oriented.Bi-AxialTwo strain gage legs, arranged perpendicular to each other, for measuring principal stresses or strains in two directions.0–45–90 RosetteThree strain gage legs, arranged in 0, 45, and 90 degree angles, for determining principal stresses and strains.0–60–120 RosetteThree strain gage legs, arranged in 0, 60, and 120 degree angles, for determining principal stresses and strains. |
| Name - Description | |
| Name box | Sets a name for the strain gage. |
| Description | Sets a description of the strain gage. |
| Placement | |
| Placement | Specifies the method to place the strain gage on the model.NodeLets you place the strain gage by selecting a node.Element Face CenterLets you place the strain gage by selecting an element. |
| Location | Specifies the side of the element to place the strain gage: Top or Bottom. Specifying the location is required, even if you define the strain gage on a node, for the software to identify which stress or strain value to use. |
| Node , Select Element Face | Lets you select the nodes or elements from the graphics window for placing the strain gage. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box that lets you specify the method to select the nodes or elements from the model. |
| Node Labels | |
| Available when Placement is set to Node. | |
| Labels | Lets you select nodes by entering the node labels.Use a space or comma to separate your entries.Use a colon or a dash to add a range of node labels. For example, enter 1:10 or 1-10 to add all the node labels from 1 to 10.Use colons to add an incremented range of node labels. For example, enter:1:9:2 to add node labels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9.1:10:2 to add node labels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10.10:1:-2 to add node labels 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.Press enter or click Select to add your entries. |
| Select | Selects the nodes that you enter their labels in the Labels box. |
| Edit Node Selection | Opens the Edit Node Selection dialog box that lets you edit the node labels. |
| Orientation | |
| Orientation | Specifies the local gage plane and local X-axis direction in which to orient the gage.Face PlaneLets the software determine the plane for the strain gage automatically. For nodal locations, the software creates the plane normal in the Z direction at the node location. For elemental locations, the software places the plane at the average plane of the element face.CSYSLets you define the gage plane orientation using the standard coordinate system definition tools. For more information, see CSYS dialog box. |
| Rotation Angle | Appears when the orientation is set to Face Plane.Rotates the gage plane about the local Z-axis (the normal). |
