Define a thermoset curing material (Simcenter Samcef Structure)

This procedure shows you how to create a curing material by defining the Matrix and Fibers material properties to let the solver compute the homogenized coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) and chemical induced-shrinkage (CSC) that are used in the curing reaction.

Note:

You can create materials only if the Allow Local Materials customer default is selected.

  1. Make the FEM the work part and displayed part.

  2. Choose Home tab→Properties group→Assign Materials or Manage Materials .

  3. In the Material List group, select Local Materials.

  4. In the New Material group, from the Type list, select Curing.

  5. Click Create Material .

  6. In the materials dialog box, from the Property View list, select Simcenter Samcef Curing Structure.

  7. In the Name - Description box, type a name for the material.

  8. In the Properties group, in the Mass Density (RHO) box, enter 1100 in units of kg/m^3.

  9. On the Matrix page, define the following properties: In the Young's Modulus group:In the Glassy box, enter 1000 in units of MPa.In the Rubbery box, enter 100 in units of MPa.In the Liquid box, enter 1 in units of MPa.Select Major Poisson's Ratio. In the Poisson's Ratio group:In the Glassy box, enter 0.3.In the Rubbery box, enter 0.45.In the Liquid box, enter 0.49.From the Thermal Expansion Coefficient Type list, select Undefined. In the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) group:In the Glassy box, enter 1.0e-5 in units of C°-1 .In the Rubbery box, enter 1.0e-5 in units of C°-1.In the Liquid box, enter 0 in units of C°-1.In the Chemically-Induced Shrinkage Coefficient group:In the Glassy box, enter 0.02.In the Rubbery box, enter 0.05.In the Liquid box, enter 0.02.In the Other Matrix Properties group, in the Gel Point box, enter 0.4.

  10. On the Fibers page, in the Fibers Properties group, define the following properties: In the Young's Modulus box, enter 250000 in units of MPa.In the In-plane Shear Modulus box, enter 50000 in units of MPa.In the Poisson's Ratio box, enter 0.25.You can enter values for N12 and NU23 depending on whether you want to define isotropic or orthotropic behavior. In the Thermal Expansion Coefficient (longitudinal) box, enter -0.5e-6 in units of C°-1.In the Thermal Expansion Coefficient (transverse) box, enter 12.0e6 in units of C°-1.In the Fibers Volume Fraction box, enter 0.5.

  11. Click OK.
