Superelement and DMIG representations > Superelements
System modeling workflow
| Step | Description | For more information... |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Create or obtain external superelements. | Using NX Nastran 8 or later, or any version of Simcenter Nastran, reduce the model using SOL 101 – Superelement or SOL 103 – Superelement. In the Superelement Options for your solution, be sure to specify DMIGOP2 as the File Format. | Generating external superelements for Pre/Post system modelsSuperelement analysis |
| 2. Create an assembly FEM. | Create an associative or non-associative assembly FEM of component FEMs representing the superelements and the residual. | Assembly FEMsAssociative workflowNon-associative workflow |
| 3. Replace component base FEMs with .op2 superelement representations. | Edit the component FEM properties to replace each base FEM representation with its corresponding .op2 superelement representation. You can control how superelements are displayed in your assembly FEM. | Replace Base FEM components with superelementsSuperelement displays |
| 4. Connect remaining superelement nodes to nodes in the residual. | When boundary nodes in the superelement correspond to nodes in the base FEM, the superelement inherits the connections used in the assembly FEM. Any remaining boundary nodes must be connected to the residual manually.Be sure to use Assembly Label Manager to resolve node label offsets after any change to your assembly FEM. | Connecting component FEMsCreate a node-to-node connectionMerge coincident nodes to connect component FEMsResolve label conflicts in your assembly FEM files |
| 5. Create the system model. | Create a new Simulation file associated to the assembly FEM containing external superelement representations. | Create a new Simulation file |
| 6. Create the system run solution and define your analysis. | Create a solution for your simulation.Create the loads, constraints, and modeling objects that define your analysis. | Create or modify a solutionSupported system model solutions |
| 7. Solve the system model. | When you solve a model containing external superelement representations, the software exports the solver deck as a Nastran system run. | Solving the system model |
| 8. Post-process results. | Create a post view of the results in your residual. Load and overlay results in the superelement data blocks.Select the resulting post views and apply consistent deformation and scaling across post views. | Post-processing system modelsOverlay post views |
