Beam post-processing
Beam stresses vary both over the length of the beam element and across the cross section. You can display beam stresses in the following ways:
(For Simcenter 3D Nastran results (.op2 or .des) files linked to a solution in pre-processing) Create a 3D solid display extruding the section geometry along the length of the element.Note: Displaying beam elements as solids is not supported for imported results. Using the Cutting Plane Options command to set the visibility of result entities with a solid display can provide unreliable results. Be sure to use the Beam Cross-Section View command instead.
Create a deformed line display consisting of 1D line elements along the length of a beam. For example, you can display stress at defined stress recovery points.
Create a diagram plot of 2D curves to evaluate the result along the length of the beam.
Note:
When defining the solution for models containing beams, be sure to request element force output in your solution. To display complete stresses and to create beam section displays, the software needs to calculate the stress components from beam element forces and section geometry.

Beam coordinate systems
By default, beam stress and strain results are displayed in the beam element coordinate system, even if results for other element types are in the absolute or work coordinate systems. To display beam results in the same coordinate system as the rest of the model, on the Result dialog box, clear the Beam Results in Local Coordinate System check box. Beam resultants are always shown in the local (element) coordinate system. For more information, see Beam resultants.
Beam diagram plot
To evaluate the result along the length of the beam, use the Beam Display Style list in the Display tab of the Post View dialog box to plot results as a diagram display of 2D curves.
When Beam Display Style is set to Line and Diagram, the diagram plot is displayed as follows:
If the beam is oriented along the X or Z-axis of the absolute coordinate system, the diagram plot is displayed along the Y-axis of the absolute coordinate system.
If the beam is oriented along the Y-axis of the absolute coordinate system, the diagram plot is displayed along the Z-axis of the absolute coordinate system.
The height and color of the diagram plot correspond to the magnitude of the result at any point along the beam.
Note:
You cannot create beam section displays for Simcenter Samcef analyses.
The displayed shear and moment contours along the length of the beam may not match traditional sign convention.
