Solar Heating dialog box – Model Orientation
Options for the Latitude Orientation Method
| Earth Vectors | |
|---|---|
| Specify Vector | Lets you specify the two nonparallel vectors to use to orient the model in relation to earth. With this option, you select two edges from your model, define a vector, and then assign it a direction. The first vector you define always points towards its target in the direction you select from the Aim at list. If the two orientations are not perpendicular, the second vector you select is not parallel to the direction you select from the Align with list, but it remains as aligned as possible.See Defining model orientation for solar heating and Vector dialog box for more information. |
| Aim at****Align with | Assigns the aim at (1) and align with (2) vectors to orient the model. Both vectors originate from the model.Note: If you select Sun from the Aim at list, the solver simulates model rotation about the align with vector during the solution, such that the sun aiming vector points as nearly as possible towards the sun. |
| Solar Vectors | |
| Day Segment | Defines the portion of the day simulated in the analysis.Full Day models the movement of the sun in the sky from sunrise to sunset at the specified Latitude and at the Time of Year specified on the Solar Flux page.Partial Day models the movement of the sun in the sky for the portion of the day you specify at the specified Latitude and at the Time of Year specified on the Solar Flux page.Single Position specifies a constant solar vector. Define the vector by specifying a time value in the Local Solar Time box. |
| Start Position.Final Position | Lets you specify the initial and final position of the sun during the analysis.Local Solar Time lets you specify an exact start or end time.Sunrise begins or ends the analysis at sunrise.Angle from Midnight lets you specify the initial or final position of the sun in terms of an angle from midnight (as calculated for the selected Latitude). |
| Analysis Time at Start Position | Lets you specify a time when you want the first solar heat loads to be calculated during the analysis. This value should be smaller than the End Time value specified on the Transient Setup tab of the Solution dialog box.By default, the software calculates the first heat loads when the analysis begins. |
| Number of Equal Angle Intervals | If you choose Full Day or Partial Day from the Day Segment list, lets you specify the number of points between sunrise and sunset at which the software calculates solar heating. |
Options for the Sun Earth Vectors Orientation Method
| Coordinates | Specifies the coordinate system in which to define the time-varying vectors.Cartesian defines the time-varying vectors in terms of Cartesian coordinates.Cylindrical defines the time-varying vectors in the cylindrical coordinates. |
|---|---|
| Specify Field | Lets you define time-varying vectors with either cylindrical or Cartesian coordinates. See Defining model orientation for solar heating for more information. |
