Create a 3D hybrid mesh

  1. Click 3D Hybrid Mesh .

  2. Select the solid body to mesh.

  3. Choose an element type from the Type list for the tetrahedral elements. The element types that are available depend upon the solver you selected when you created the FEM.

  4. Enter an element size, or click Automatic Element Size to have the software calculate an appropriate element size.

  5. Specify a coordinate system for the hexahedral mesh:To use a predefined coordinate system, select one from the list.To create a new coordinate system, click CSYS Dialog .

  6. (Optional) Use the Number of Layers Trimmed at Wall option to specify the distance between the hexahedral element and the boundaries.Note: If you specify a large value for the Number of Layers Trimmed at Wall option, the software might create only tetrahedral elements in the volume.

  7. Choose an element type from the Hexahedral Element Type list for the hexahedral elements.

  8. (Optional) Use the Small Feature Tolerance (% of Element Size) option to specify the percentage of the element size at which a feature should be recognized as a small feature. The software eliminates the small features during the abstraction process that precedes meshing.

  9. Specify the destination mesh collector:To have the software create a new destination mesh collector, select the Automatic Creation check box. This mesh collector uses the default physical properties and inherits the material properties of the solid model. To use an existing mesh collector, clear the Automatic Creation check box and select a collector from the Mesh Collector list.To create a new destination collector, clear the Automatic Creation check box and click New Collector .

  10. (Optional) Click Preview Boundary Nodes to view the nodal distribution along the boundaries of the body. If you are not satisfied with the previewed mesh, modify the Element Size value and other settings.

  11. Click OK or Apply to generate the mesh.
