Display mass flow imbalances at duct and stream junctions

This example shows how to display mass flow imbalances at duct and stream junctions of an aero-engine model. The thermal streams can be connected automatically or through Thermal Streams Junction simulation objects.

The model contains a thermal Multiphysics solution with streams connected with a Thermal Streams Junction simulation object (1), streams chained automatically together (2), and a 1D duct network (3).

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the solution node and choose Edit.

  2. On the Results Options page, in the Thermal Output Requests row, click Edit .

  3. On the 1D Flow page, select the Mass Flow check box.

  4. Click OK twice to close both dialog boxes.

  5. Solve the solution and load the results.

  6. In the Post Processing Navigator, under the solution node, expand the Thermal node, one of the step nodes, and one of the increment nodes for which you want to display results.

  7. Double-click the Mass Flow Junction Imbalance — Elemental node to display the results.

  8. Use the Zoom command to magnify the results in the graphics window.Notice that the mass balances at junctions are displayed for all duct connections and all user-defined stream connections. When you have large mass imbalances, you can use the mass flow vector and stream normal/reverse direction results to verify that the mass imbalances correspond to the mass flows defined.

  9. Double-click the Mass Flow Vector — Elemental node.

  10. Under the ViewportsContour Plots nodes, expand the Post View and Mesh Collector nodes.

  11. Clear the 0D Elements node.

  12. Click Results tab→Display group→Color Display Style list →Arrows .

  13. Use the Zoom command to magnify the results in the graphics window.Verify that the model is correctly set up based on your design.
