Laminate Composites > Defining plies and a stacking sequence
Define parent and child groups
Note:
Any group created without copying an existing ply group is a parent group.
To create a parent group:
Use shift-click or control-click to select two or more plies from the ply table.
Right-click, and select Group.-or-Click Group Selected Plies on the Ply Layup tab.
The new parent group appears under a blue heading. The plies in a parent group are displayed in black.
To create a child group:
Click the newly created group.
Right-click, and select Copy.
Click the area of the ply table where you would like to insert your child group.
Right-click, and select Paste, Paste Symmetric or Paste Anti-symmetric. Each command contains the option of being inserted above or below the selected ply.
The new child group appears under a magenta heading. The plies in a child group are displayed in red. A description of the parent group and the link rule appears in the Composition column of the ply table.
An example of linked groups, in which the child was created using Paste Symmetric, is shown below:
Unlinking groups
To remove the link between a parent and child group, select the child group you wish to unlink from the ply table, right-click, then select Unlink, or click Unlink Selected Ply Group .
For more information on using Paste to create plies or ply groups, see Defining plies and a stacking sequence.
