1D duct flow networks
Use 1D duct flow networks to model any system of channels, pipes, or ducts that contain or direct a fluid. Duct flow networks are modeled using 1D equations.
Depending on your model physics, you can create duct flow networks as follows:
Model fluid networks using 1D duct elements with defined cross sections to solve for pressure, velocity, mass flow, and temperature (1). 1D duct elements have a Duct or Duct Axisymmetric type of 1D duct mesh collector.
Model fluid networks with fixed mass flows using 1D duct with mass flow elements to only solve for mass flow and temperature (2). 1D duct with mass flow elements have a Duct with Mass Flow or Duct with Mass Flow Axisymmetric type of 1D duct mesh collector.
Model heat transfer across the duct wall using 1D duct with thick wall elements (3). 1D duct with thick wall elements have a Duct with Thick Wall type of 1D duct mesh collector.
Model heat transfer across the duct wall using 1D elements for duct fluid and shells for duct walls (4). You model the heat transfer from the duct fluid to the wall using a Thermal Coupling — Convection simulation object. You can use any type of 1D duct mesh collector.
Model heat transfer across the duct wall using 1D elements for duct fluid and 3D solid elements (5). You model duct convection with surrounding 3D elements using an Immersed Ducts simulation object. You can use Duct type of 1D duct mesh collector.
You define duct properties, inflow, and outflow using the Duct Flow Boundary Conditions simulation object.
