Controlling the birth and death times of elements in advanced nonlinear analyses

Element Birth/Death lets you define the “birth” and “death” times for a specific set of elements. During the course of a nonlinear analysis, parts of a structure (material) may need to be added to or removed from a finite element model. When you create a Simcenter Nastran Advanced Nonlinear solution (SOL 601,106 Advanced Nonlinear Statics, SOL 601,129 Advanced Nonlinear Transient, or SOL 701 Explicit Advanced Nonlinear Analysis), Create Element Birth/Death lets you selectively activate or deactivate elements in your model at specific times. The ability to define birth and death times for elements is useful, for example, for analyzing excavation and construction of tunnels.

When you solve your model, Create Element Birth/Death creates a Simcenter Nastran EBDSET bulk data entry in your Simcenter Nastran input file.
