Reference Field dialog box
Use the Reference Field dialog box to create a field from post-processing results.
Note:
You must be in the simulation model view to define how:
The reference field is mapped to model space.
The software handles values outside the range of data created by the reference field.
Name page
| Name | |
|---|---|
| Name | Specifies a name for the table field. |
| Label | Specifies a unique numeric identifier for the table field. |
| Description | Specifies a description for the table field. |
Dependent Domain page
| Dependent Domain | |
|---|---|
| Dependent | Displays the dependent domain used to create the reference field. |
Independent Domain page
| Independent Domain | |
|---|---|
| Independent | Displays the independent domain used to create the reference field. |
| Type | Appears when the independent domain is spatial.Defines how the field is mapped to model space. The following options in the Type list depend on the independent domain that you selected when creating the reference field.GlobalCreates the field relative to the global coordinates.CartesianMaps the field using a Cartesian coordinate system. |
| Specify CSYS | Appears when Type is set to Cartesian, Cylindrical, or Spherical.Specifies a local coordinate system as the coordinate basis of the reference field. |
| Subtype | Appears when the Independent domain is Cartesian.Cloud maps 3D data as a cloud of points to a 2D location. The data may or may not conform to geometry when you apply the field as a boundary condition.Surface maps 3D data to a surface that you select. This is an effective technique for complex surfaces. |
| Select Face | Appears when Subtype is set to Surface.Lets you select the face or surface to which the reference field is mapped. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Appears when Subtype is set to Surface.Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
| Tolerance | Appears when Subtype is set to Surface.Defines a distance from the selected face. Data within the volume defined by this distance and the selected face are used in the surface spatial map. Data outside this volume is excluded from the surface spatial map. |
| Calculate tolerance based on current field definition | Appears when Subtype is set to Surface.Calculates the tolerance based on the field definition. |
Table Options page
| Table Options | |
|---|---|
| Values Outside Table | The following options are available to handle the lookup at points that lie outside the range of data defined by the reference fieldUndefined specifies that a value is not assigned for the field at values of the independent domain that lie outside the cloud of points defined by the reference field.Extrapolate specifies that the two starting data points and two ending data points are extrapolated to determine values for the field when values of the independent domain lie outside the cloud of points defined by the reference field. The two starting data points are extrapolated for values of the independent domain less than that defined by the reference field. The two ending data points are extrapolated for values of the independent domain that are greater than that defined by the reference field.Constant specifies that the lookup value for points that lie outside the cloud of points defined by the tabular data is the value of the dependent domain at the closest data point.User Defined specifies that the value you enter in the Values Outside Table box is used as the value for the field when the value of the independent domain lies outside the cloud of points defined by the reference field. |
