Element Add/Remove (SOL 401)

Use the Element Add/Remove simulation object to define parts of a structure that will be added to or removed from a finite element model during a Simcenter 3D Multiphysics or Simcenter Nastran SOL 401 solve. You can add or remove elements at pre-defined time points, or you can remove elements based on a state of strain. For example, you can represent a mechanical fracture by selecting elements to remove when the strain reaches the value at which rupture is predicted.

The total axial strain on a pre-loaded bolt includes the axial strain defined by the bolt pre-load, along with the strain resulting from any other loads you apply, including pre-loads on neighboring bolts. When multiple bolts connect two bodies, the sequence in which the bolts are tightened affects the total axial strain of each bolt.

The Element Add/Remove command corresponds to the Simcenter Nastran ELAR bulk data entry when the Group Reference check box is selected, or the ELAR2 bulk data entry when the Group Reference check box is cleared.
