Managing element conflicts when appending a Nastran input file
In the Simcenter Nastran and MSC Nastran environments, when you use the Solver Deck Append dialog box to import, append, and merge data from a Nastran input file into a FEM or Simulation file, you can select the Modify With File Data option in the Element Conflicts list to replace the element physical property data in the Pre/Post destination file with the element physical property data from the source Nastran input file.
With the Modify With File Data option, the software imports the physical property data for elements in the source Nastran input file as element-associated data and uses that data to override the properties specified in the physical property table for the element in Pre/Post. Because of this, if you select Modify With File Data, the software automatically sets the Physical properties option in the Data Compaction Options group of the File Append dialog box to All.
After you import physical properties as element-associated data, you can use the spreadsheet-like interface in the Element Associated Data Manager dialog box to manage and modify the data as necessary. For more information, see Managing element-associated data.
To use the Modify With File Data option to resolve element physical property data conflicts:
The element type in the source Nastran input file must be the same as the element type in the FEM file in Pre/Post.
For 3D elements, all elements in the FEM file in Pre/Post must be present in the source Nastran input file.
Supported element types
The following types of elements support the Modify With File Data option for element physical property data conflicts:
Note:
For all other element types, the Modify With File Data option does not append element physical property data from the source Nastran input file if it conflicts with an the physical property data of an existing element in the Pre/Post destination file

Special considerations for importing material orientation vector information for certain solid elements
For the following Nastran 3D element types, you define the element's material orientation in the PSOLID physical property table dialog box:
CHEXA
CPENTA
CPYRAM
CTETRA
For these element types:
If you select both the Modify With File Data option and the Import 3D MOVs as field data check box in the Data Compaction Options group, the software changes the Material Orientation Method to Spatial Field.
If you select the Modify With File Data option and clear the Import 3D MOVs as field data check box in the Data Compaction Options group, the software changes the Material Orientation Method to Physical Property Table. In this case, the software modifies the material orientations of the elements in Pre/Post to use the material orientations of the elements in the Nastran input file as defined in the coordinate system that is referenced in their associated physical property table.Note: The only exception to this behavior occurs when the Nastran input file includes a MATCID bulk data entry. The software issues a message and the software imports the material orientation vector data as a spatial field.
